2 lady owners from new. First was a retired GP from Northamptonshire, we bought it directly from her when she replaced it with a new Golf R in March 2018. It was then owned by my wife until it was replaced by a 2013 Audi TT 2.0 TFSI S line Black Edition S tronic, her 'dream' car. | ||
86000 miles with a full service history, mainly from VW or specialists to 2018 backed up by all receipts. Since then it was in our custody and serviced by us annually regardless of the low mileage covered. It has had its 3rd cambelt change recently and has just had its second DSG oil change and brand new Pagid front brake discs and pads and a brake fluid change. Just after we bought it the thermostat was replaced as it wasn't warming up quickly, this is a common issue on all Mk5 GTIs and can lead do engine damage if not dealt with (and many are ignored). It has recently had a new EVAP purge valve and last year it had a new PCV block. In late 2019 it had the wheels refurbished to OEM standard by Prestige Wheel Centre and they were shod with 4 brand new Falken tyres which are an OEM supplier to VW and suit the car very well (loads of tread left). The wiper blades are recent and operate with no noise. We have just replaced both tailgate struts with genuine VW parts as the originals were tired. On 1/12/2020 it had a full service with NGK plugs, Bosch oil filter, Mann cabin filter, Bosch air filter and Febi Bilstein sump plug. This won't be the cheapest Mk5 GTI but the average condition
of these now is very poor and if you want a decent one, you will need
to pay more than the average price. We love the Mk5 GTI but so few are
anywhere even close to meeting our standards so when one does we have
to price it accordingly. While many issues can be fixed inexpensively,
rust is not one of them and we are pleased to report that this is an unusually
solid example. The wings which are original (date marked 2005) are pretty
much perfect having had the water retaining sponge removed from them and
protective wax applied by us. More of an issue are the sills which unlike
the wings are a structural part of the car but I am pleased to report
this car's are very good. Then we have the gearbox. Get caught out with
DSG and you'll have a horrible driving car at best or a huge bill. We
are firm believers the gearbox smoothness in later life is reflected by
how it's been driven. With 2 very sensible lady owners you can be sure
this one has not seen a lot of hard driving and neither owner has spent
a lot of time in stop start traffic which can accelerate gearbox wear
and affect smoothness. As a result, it's hard to fault which I can assure
you isn't always the case. |
