1991 Mk2 Golf 1.8 GL with 90 hp 4 cylinder 8v petrol engine and 5 speed manual gearbox. Tornado red bodywork with grey velour interior. 1 owner from new. He offered it to us directly - we don't go looking for cars like these but get offered them due to our longstanding association with them.

Due to ill health the vehicle hasn't been used much of late but passed a VW main dealer MOT in September just needed a brake hose. We have performed a cambelt change, full service and replaced the front brake discs and pads (see images) and rocker cover gasket. MOT to 11/9/18

Complete owners manual wallet. Spare key. Tailored cloth front floor mats. VW dealer branded number plates. Period 'Quantum' spare bulb kit.

Having started Volkswizard in 2002 selling Mk2 Golf GTIs, we accumulated a lot of knowledge on these cars, most which tells us to stay away from them now prices have gone up and condition has gone down. Condition is everything for us and that's how we've found ourselves with this very special GL, our first ever. Sure it's not a GTI but in many ways it's more interesting. Another benefit is that you can see all 4 wheel arches clearly and these are perfect. While the GTI arch trims were a key styling cue, they were a bit of a mud trap and so many hide corrosion under them it's a wonder the arch trim remain attached! The GL has the same 1781 cc block as a GTI and the same 8v head too. The main difference is the Pierburg 2E2 carburettor handling fuelling rather than a fuel injection system. These can be a bit temperamental but this one to our surprise still works fine.
Conditon is excellent, yes there are some minor marks here and there but this is a very solid and amazingly tidy car and I don't just mean for one that's 27 years old! We can't see any firm evidence of previous paintwork repairs but it's fair to assume some must have been carried out at some point.
The interior is genuinely close to perfect. The light coloured carpet has been protected by some chunky ribbed VW cloth floor mats. We haven't had to do any preparation apart from give it a good dry vacuum.
It drives exceptionally well. I drove it back from Barnsley down the M1 and let's just say I drove less satisfactory and far newer cars that week!

Due to the rarity of this car (1 owner, comprehensive history supported by all receipts from day one, low mileage and exceptional condition) we aren't open to offers. It's also a rare chance to be able to buy a car like this prepared by a company that has so much expertise in these vehicles unlike the general classic or modern classic dealers many of which have started up only recently in order to exploit their recent popularity.
