The 18" Monza II alloy wheels were fitted by the supplying dealer before the last owner took delivery - they are genuine VW parts but have the grey inserts of a Mk5 Golf GTI, not the black of a Mk6 but in every other way are correct.

For some it's hard to see the benefit of a Mk6 GTI over the excellent Mk5 as they are essentially based on the same platform. However as well as being more modern looking with a lot of Mk7 styling cues, the Mk6's biggest improvement is under the bonnet with the cambelt driven 2.0 TFSI having been replaced by a chain driven 2.0 TSI. As well as not needing regular belt changes, the TSI's greatest advantage is that it is significantly more efficient returning fuel consumption figures a good 5-10 mpg better than the earlier car. Not only that but it feels more urgent, more so than the 10 hp boost would have you believe and it sounds a bit fruitier too. There were admittedly issues with the early (2009/2010) cam chain tensioner on the TSI engine but these were resolved with a redesigned part and don't afflict the later cars like this one.
The interior also feels a bit more Golf like than the grey plastic fest of the Mk5 and VW finally introduced media connectivity (Ipod/USB/Aux IN), DAB digital radio and Bluetooth.
On viewing this car the heavens opened so I didn't get a chance to have a good look at it but I'd be assured by the owner previously that it had never been damaged and on getting the car back and giving it a tar removal/clay bar/machine polish session I'm pleased to say he was right, it all looks original and in excellent condition. Likewise the interior has survived really well with barely any wear, even on the driver's seat. The owner mentioned how he had protected the leather from being marked by baby seats, something many other don't bother with. We had one wheel refurbished by Prestige Wheel Centre who did a great job, there is a tiny bit of corrosion on one other wheel which we didn't think justified attention. All 4 tyres are the same make and model, admittedly they aren't a well known brand but this is testament to the car having had an easy life as a family car and not been a weekend warrior like a lot of GTIs.
